Justin Widen is a student at Madison College’s Electrical Engineering Technology program, where he has been working on the NSF Antarctic Weather Station project since the spring of 2025. In his role, he focuses on firmware and hardware engineering, including developing embedded software and drivers for meteorological instrumentation, building bespoke embedded test utilities and data logging systems, and designing interface systems to extend the operational life of existing field equipment. Justin brings a broad background in embedded systems, PCB design, additive manufacturing, CAD, and IT infrastructure from years of professional and personal projects, and maintains an active portfolio of open source hardware and software on GitHub. Outside of work, he enjoys building and tinkering with everything from 3D printers and CAD to home automation servers and custom electric bikes, longboards, and scooters.
