Antarctic icebergs are named based off of two things:

Where an iceberg calves off from around the continent
What number iceberg it is that has calved off in the area it originated from

The continent is split up into 4 quadrants A, B, C, and D where:
A is from 0°-90°W
B is from 90°W-180°
C is from 180°-90°E
D is from 90°E-0°

For example, in February 2021, an iceberg calved off of the Brunt Ice Shelf and was named A-74 since it originated in quadrant A and was the 74th iceberg to calve in that quadrant since records began. For more information about naming classification, visit the U.S. National Ice Center webpage.
