Jonathan Chambers

Hi, I am Jonathan Chambers! I am currently a first-year master’s student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I work as a Graduate Project Assistant for the team at the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC). I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Atmosphere Sciences (Broadcasting Concentration) at Vermont State University- Lyndon (f/k/a Lyndon State College and Northern Vermont University-Lyndon) and a minor in Russian and Eurasian Studies. At Lyndon, I spent much of my senior year looking into how different climate projections would impact the intensity and location of cold air outbreak events over North America. Now, that I am a part of AMRDC, my main focuses have been investigating the microscale topography around our AWS network to ensure our findings are representative of the surrounding area and analyzing polar lows over the Southern Ocean and their impact on synoptic scale systems.

Outside of doing research, I am very passionate about public outreach and shrinking the knowledge gap between scientists and the general public. Since scientists are sometimes viewed with skepticism by the common people, it is necessary to explain what we do and what impacts the climate has on everyone in easy-to-understand terms. Just like an unread book that is left on the shelf, the knowledge gained by scientists is not used if one doesn’t know what to do with it.

In my free time, I love watching soccer, rugby, and football, as well as playing video games with the friends I have made across the world. Lastly, I enjoy playing tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and my favorite: Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
