Jonathan Chambers

Hi, I am Jonathan Chambers, a third-year master’s degree student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who works as a Graduate Project Assistant for Dr. Matthew Lazzara. I graduated in 2024 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences (Broadcasting concentration) and a minor in Russian and Eurasian Studies at Vermont State University-Lyndon (formerly Northern Vermont University-Lyndon). My senior year at Lyndon was spent researching the impact of different climate projections on the intensity and location of cold air outbreaks over North America. At AMRDC, I study Cloud Mass Meridional Transport events (CMMTs) over Antarctica and how satellite observations compare to diagnostic variables within reanalyses and climate models.

Besides my research, I am very passionate about conducting public outreach and shrinking the knowledge gap between scientists and the general public. I believe it is important for scientists to address the public’s skepticism by explaining how climate change impacts our day-to-day lives in easy-to-understand terms. Knowledge holds little value when you can not share or do anything with it!

In the community, I am proud to volunteer with Velma Hamilton Middle School’s Science Olympiad team as a meteorology instructor. I enjoy helping students learn about the weather and how our world works. My other hobbies include watching soccer, rugby, and football, playing video games, and going to the gym. I also enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons, painting Warhammer miniatures, and writing short-form prose.
